GAY HEAD LIGHTHOUSE MOVE

Project Description:

Pomroy Associates was hired in December of 2014 to spearhead and manage the relocation of the Gay Head Lighthouse. Pomroy managed all aspects of the investigations, geotechnical analysis, archeology investigation, MA Historic approvals, permitting and entitlements, move engineering and oversaw the actual move of the 162-year-old lighthouse. The relocation was completed in June 2015. Following the successful relocation, Pomroy Associates was named the Local Project Coordinator (“LPC”) for the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Town of Aquinnah to oversee the renovation of the lighthouse. The renovations included structural repairs and the restoration of masonry and metals and were completed in 2018.  

The site is listed in the State Register of Historic Places and all work complied with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties & Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.
