Gay Head Lighthouse Relocation

$3.4M · 2015 · moved 129 feet

Pomroy Associates spearheaded and managed the relocation of this historic lighthouse on Martha’s Vineyard. PA managed all aspects of the investigations, geotechnical analysis, archeology investigation, MA Historic approvals, permitting and entitlements, move-engineering, and completed the project by overseeing the relocation of the 162-year-old lighthouse. Following the successful relocation, Pomroy Associates was named the Local Project Coordinator (“LPC”) for the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Town of Aquinnah to oversee the renovation of the lighthouse. The renovations included structural repairs and the restoration of masonry and metals and were completed in 2018.

The site is listed in the State Register of Historic Places and all work complied with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties & Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. The International Chimney Corporation was the designer on this project.
